Tessa and her team bend over backwards to keep my horse calm and happy, taking endless pains to adjust and perfect his feeding, turnout and schooling regime, and to manage his busy stud season.
Their attention to detail is phenomenal. I am constantly amazed at the lengths to which Tessa and her staff will go to keep my horse healthy and content - the hours spent on the phone to nutrition experts, the special feeds to keep weight on him, the complicated turnout programme to prevent boredom, the obstacles carefully placed in the school to stop him galloping too fast, the way they make sure he gets all the love and fuss and attention he craves.... Tessa even uses her own highly valuable senior stallion to tease Tobago's mares for him, so that he doesn't get stressed or wound up - how many studs would do that? I could go on and on - the list of 'above and beyond' examples is endless.
As well as all this, every one of Tobago's visiting mares has received the same 5-star individual care. Mares go home not only safely in foal but also in beautiful condition, relaxed and happy. I have never heard anything but praise for Cliveden, even from the most anxious and demanding mare-owners!

“I run a consumer PR business with a team of 40. Needless to say therefore I can be demanding, and my horses are central to my sanity. I ride both horses both days most weekends. During the week I rely on Tessa Spencer and her team to look after the welfare of my horses and care about their needs with the same degree of commitment that I would if I could be there.
My mares have very different needs - one is a spirited Connemara who has Cushings but is very much part of the lifeblood of the yard; the other is a sensitive hunter who is prone to tie up and can be unpredictable. Both need continuous different medication. The Cliveden Stud team has made every effort to get to know them and their needs as individuals for which I am very grateful.
During the hunting season Diamond would win ‘best turned out horse’ at every meet if there were such a prize – no matter how cold it is or how early we leave for a meet, the team plait Diamond and turn her out immaculately. And on our return to the yard there are always staff on hand to help.
